My first attempt at crazy quilting- a partial craft fail!

I saw the tutorial for an amazing hussif and wanted to make a crazy quilt version for my aunt since she had been showing me a little bit about them. I know how you are supposed to start them but I figured to heck with it & just starting sewing random pieces together. It worked out but I did have to adjust a few here & there.

I typically embroider with the cheap-o version of pearl cotton. That was not going to work with this, I hated the way it looked. Once I don't like something about a project I put it aside until the day comes when I feel like I don't hate it anymore. I was also having problems with the embellishments. Typically I am too hard on myself, but I don't want to be the person that gave the gift someone was all to happy to give away at their next White Elephant party :(

When I showed it to my aunt though she LOVED it. I am sure a huge part of that had to do with the fact it was ME making it, bless her heart. She wants me to finish it and someday I will......when I don't hate even looking at it!

Zombie gingerbread men ornaments

After seeing similar ones online, my sister asked me to make some zombie gingerbread men ornaments for my niece. Easy as pie! I took my largest cookie cutter and made a thin cardboard template. When I make templates I like to use the cardboard from cereal boxes (and similar items) because it is sturdy but thin.

Now after cutting out the shapes all I had to do was decorate them. The first one was kind of blah because my creative juices & confidence weren't flowing. He's still cute though right?

The next one was even better...

One of his eyes is hanging down, and I simply ran the thread across to make his ribs. The best part is his "brains!" I used long bouillon knots to make them stand out. My husband even said it was a little too gross. Bonus points for grossing out a man!

The final one was a tie I think.

He was "stitched" back together and had a bandaged head- with more brains popping out. To finish them all off I fused the backs to more felt. This did not work so well for the mummy head! Zombies are a pretty popular theme right now, I hope my ideas help you!
